The town of Brooklyn is one of the easier abandoned towns to get too in the New River. A short drive down a gravel road located off the Cunard River Access Area will take you right to it. Not much remains of the once coal town of Brooklyn. The parking area for the Brooklyn Trail is where you'll start to see signs of the town. An old foundation of a building sits near the lot and located above the handicap camping area are the remains of the coal tipple that once carried coal from the mine opening above down to the New River. Continue onto the Brooklyn Trail and at around half a mile the remains of an old company store are on the right hand side of the trail. The trail soon opens up to a clearing not long after passing the old company store. Scattered throughout the woods are the foundations and remains of houses of Brooklyn. Keep an eye out for piles of river rocks that were once the walls and chimneys of the homes of Brooklyn.
