Linville Falls is located along the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Post 316.
Linville Falls is one of the most well known and photographed along the Blue Ridge Parkway due to its easy accessibility. There are three different trails that give viewers five different vantages of the falls. The river once flowed over the top of the rock cliff, but a flood caused the rock to crack creating the chute in which the river flows through. This crack in the rock face cut the height of the waterfall in half. Linville Falls is split between two waterfalls. The 15 foot upper falls can be seen from a newly built overlook that allows visitors to see the rushing water of the Linville River disappear between the rocks making its way to the lower falls. The main waterfall is a roaring 45 foot drop to the river basin below.
